Our work begins when we receive your skin biopsy, but everyone at Rabkin Dermatopathology Laboratory, P.C. has spent years training and preparing to give your skin specimen the attention and care it deserves.
We provide prepaid overnight delivery services for all biopsies, and receive biopsies weekday mornings.
Once we receive your specimen, our Histology Department, under close physician supervision, immediately begins the painstaking process of preparing the tissue for microscopic examination.
Unlike many laboratory tests, the diagnosis of your skin biopsy is not automated or determined by a machine. Every biopsy is examined individually under a microscope by a Board Certified Dermatopathologist (MD) who then dictates a narrative report describing his or her findings.
Beyond being Board Certified in Dermatopathology (which requires the successful completion of both advanced training in skin pathology and a national examination in the specialty), each of our physicians is a full time skin pathologist devoted to one thing and one thing only – using state of the art techniques to provide the most careful and detailed diagnoses possible.
Based upon what he or she sees under the microscope, our Dermatopathologist may be able to make a diagnosis without further studies. If, however, our physician determines additional testing is necessary, virtually all additional testing is performed in-house, thereby minimizing the delay in reporting results.
We make every effort to keep referring physicians’ offices informed every step of the way, and our physicians are able to answer questions from the patient’s referring or attending physician.
Our Dermatopathologists dictate each report, and our Clerical Staff transcribes each report. Each of our physicians reviews and signs his or her Dermatopathology report, which is then sent back to the referring physician. Our Billing Department is also in house and is able to respond quickly and professionally to any questions or concerns.
Because we are independently owned and operated, and have one location only, we are small enough to be flexible and responsive to the needs of those we serve. At the same time, our physicians stay current with advances in the field and are continually furthering their own education with participation in national and international symposiums in the field. Our physicians also teach Dermatopathology to local physicians in training.
Our physicians are licensed to practice medicine in more than fifteen states, and we welcome inquiries from Dermatologists and others looking to send specimens to us for microscopic examination.
